The Henkel data network connects about 500 international sites and provides the backbone for several business-critical applications like SAP or Lotus Notes. It is increasingly used to run web-based applications to opitimize internal business processes. Due to the importance of the network and the high costs related to its operation it is essential to predict and evaluate the implications of any modification to avoid problems and additional costs. To do such a prediction, a combination of application measurement, simulation, and emulation is used. In cooperation with the company rt-solutions.de , the aim of this project is to develop a process to map the current network state as well as the behavior of all applications to a simulation model. This model will then be used to study the implications of of any changes, e.g. the roll-out of a new application that has been measured before. The results of this simulation will then be used to make administrative or business descisions.
Demonstrator Telerobotik

Wireless Mesh Network Infrastructure for QoS Applications
Project development | Georg Lukas |
Project director | Prof. Dr. Edgar Nett |
Project type | Haushaltsprojekt |
Financing | Haushalt |
Project term | 01.03.2007 - 29.02.2012 |
Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) provide a flexible network backbone for big industrial sites and factory plants. However, to provide the real-time guarantees required for industrial applications, a WMN has to be adapted on different levels. Reliability measures are taken on several layers and augmented by cross-Layer communication to ensure wireless communication without failures.
Wireless Mesh Network Testbed

Wireless Mesh Networks provide a flexible network backbone for large industrial plants. The communication is controlled by a mesh routing protocol, When developing such protocols, it is very important to test and evaluate the implementation under realistic conditions. For this reason, a testbed consisting of many stationary and mobile mesh participants is operated in the faculty building. This testbed is used to evaluate the performance of routing protocols and their extensions, as well as for demonstration of the developed protocols.
